Location

Avstar flight school is based at Pietermaritzburg airport which is situated in the heart of Kwa-Zulu Natal.   Due to the diversity of the surrounding landscape pilots are exposedto numerous varying flying conditions ranging from high elevation mountainess terrain to low plateau’s and sea level conditions.   Oribi airport is a registered South African aerodrome which services the need of regular scheduled flights.   This provides our trainee pilots with the experience needed to cope with high traffic volumes as well as exposing them to nearby un-controlled aerodromes.   The airport also boasts sufficient facilities with the likes of four NDBs and a VOR making it the ideal aerodrome for instrument training.   Situated only 40 min away from the sunny beaches of Durban and just over an hour from the snow capped mountains of the central Drakensberg,   Pietermaritzburg and its surrounding areas offer many recreational activities for overseas students.
